cellist

Megan Hallam, cello

Megan Hallam began her musical journey at the age of 7, when she first heard Saint-Saëns’ Concerto in A Minor and immediately decided she wanted to play the cello. She credits her first teacher, Susan Patterson, with many fundamental performance and life skills. She later studied for several years under Janos Starker protégé Kathleen Kee (now retired from the ASO) before being accepted into the studio of Martha Gerschefski.

She was a 5-year member of the prestigious Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, played regularly for many years with the Sandy Springs Chamber Orchestra (later renamed Orchestra Atlanta) and the Rome Symphony, and was a founding member of The Georgia Philharmonic. After over a decade with Ga Phil, she served 5 seasons as principal cellist before stepping down to a more relaxed position as section cellist and President Emeritus of the Board of Directors.

Ms. Hallam’s background in music includes both performance and management.  She has extensive experience in event planning and non-profit operations, working in both the non-profit and private sectors throughout her career, much of which has focused on various aspects of music and fine arts. Outside of her many playing commitments, she maintains a small studio of private students and has spent the past 15 years as manager and cello specialist at Atlanta Violins.
